This presentation will highlight the role that PCIJ's lifestyle-check series on revenue officials played not only in exposing the unexplained wealth of many corrupt BIR (Bureau of Internal Revenue) personnel but also in intensifying government's conduct of its own lifestyle or asset checks on government officials and employees. Also forming part of the planned presentation will be a discussion of the extent of corruption in the Philippine government, specifically its major revenue-collecting agencies, as well as some of the problems and issues confronting the Philippine media in exposing malfeasance in public governance, and how these are being addressed.
