THE CENTRE OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS, THE PROGRAM ON CANADA-ASIA POLICYAND THE CENTRE FOR AUSTRALASIAN STUDIES INVITE YOU TO THE American Power and World Order by Professor Chris Reus-Smith (Australian National University) In recent years American foreign policy has taken a unilateralist turn.
Confident of America's military might, economic supremacy and cultural
magnetism, the Bush Administration has embarked on an ambitious project
to further American interests and reshape global order. Far from being
a realistic approach to the challenges of the post-September 11 world,
Professor Reus-Smit argues that this approach to foreign policy is deeply
idealist, and based on flawed understandings of the nature of power and
the complexities of the contemporary global system. Professor Chris Reus-Smit
is Head of the Department of International Relations in the Research School
of Pacific and Asian Studies at the Australian National University. He
has written many articles that have appeared in many leading international
journals, and his writings have been awarded both the Northedge Prize
and the British International Studies Association Prize. |
